<p>The invention relates generally to a system (1) for promoting regeneration of a damaged nerve. In particular, the invention comprises a guide tube (2) constructed to be attached to the damaged nerve (3) and (4), guiding filaments (6) disposed within the guide tube (2), and a therapeutic composition (5) enclosed by the guide tube (2). Both the guide tube (2) and the guiding filaments (6) are composed of biologically compatible materials, while the therapeutic composition (5) contains a nerve-growth-stimulating agent dispersed in a matrix-forming material. During treatment, the guide tube (2) is inserted between the ends of lesioned nerves (3) and (4), resulting in the stimulation of axon growth.</p> |
