The seat belt system may be used on a road vehicle. The belt system has a clamping device (4) for the safety belt attached on the carrier (3) and which is activated by excessive speed of pulling on the belt band and/or change of speed of the vehicle. The system is designed so that the forces arising in the carrier with the clamping device activated and the forces through pulling on the belt band and imposed upon the shoulder pivot point, are oppositely directed.
