Vibration damper with protective sleeve

The piston rod of the damper is protected by an outer sleeve (23) comprising a cylindrical section (29) joined to a base plate (33). The sleeve locates the elastic bump stop fitted around the piston rod. The cylindrical section has a sprung tag (41) which locates through a hole (43) in the base plate for a simple assembly. The tag is positioned through the hole and secured by a spring clip under the plate. The fitting can also be provided by riveting the tag into the hole with either a hollow rivet or a solid rivet. For a clip coupling the tag and the spring clip have preset tensions.
