The adjustment device for furniture for sitting or sleeping on has a drive unit arranged on a fixed part of the furniture. It is also linked to adjustable parts of the furniture to vary the sitting or sleeping position. A hand switch (5) is provided to control the adjustment movement. The handle (5) is connected to the drive unit via a flexible lead or by wireless connection. The handle (5) also has function triggering switches for the adjustment movement, with corresponding buttons. The buttons and/or a part of the hand switch (5) surrounding the button, is made of transparent material. An electric light element (9) is arranged on the inside and is switchably connected to a voltage source (1, 2, 3, 4).
