In order to produce complex and selectively variable patterns of light, using simple means, a second pattern (2.1) is used. It is arranged relative to the first (2) so both structures (2,2.1) together produce a new patterning of light. One pattern is displaceably or rotatably driven relative to the other by means of a motor drive (10).
