Spring driven door lock for cars

The lock has a hook-shaped latch (2) which moves against a spring (8) and is in contact with the striking plate (5) when locked. The retracted position allows its detachment from or attachment to the striking plate. When the latch moves from its locked position it presses against the spring which becomes tensed. The lock has a device (6, 7) which maintains the spring in its tensed state and a device (2-2) activated by the striking plate when it engages the latch. When the door is opened one surface of the latch (26) enters into contact with the striking plate, it is positioned obliquely in relation to the position of the relative displacement of the lock and the striking plate. This helps to tension the spring. There is a pawl which, with the latch, creates a catch (23, 24) in a position which corresponds to the total or partial closure of the door. It is designed so that when the door is only partially shut, the spring (8) is at least partially compressed and so tends to force the latch into the position which corresponds to the total closure of the door.
