Exposing building surfaces and wastes to UV radiation and photochemical substances

A process and assembly reduce the level of pollution on building surfaces (38), in building wastes, soil, debris and sludge containing a high proportion of solid contents. The novelty is that exposed surfaces (20) of the substance (38, 42) are irradiated with ultra-violet light, if necessary in conjunction with an admixture of photochemical substances to accelerate breakdown of the pollutants. Waste solids are agitated during UV-irradiation to ensure full exposure of the pollutants to UV-treatment. The medium (38, 42) is treated with a sensitising agent, an oxidant and a reduction agent.
