Roll-over protection for convertible motor vehicle

The car roll-over protection device has supports in the two rear side panel regions, behind the rear seat. In the normal (rest) position, the supports are lowered but when there is danger of roll-over, they are automatically moved upwards into the active position. The upper section 97) of a support is contoured to match the vehicle profile and has a large flat surface (8). The lower part comprises a piston (6) moving in a cylinder (5). The piston is raised by pyrotechnic means. The pistons of both cylinders are activated by a common danger signal. There are springs between the piston and cylinder walls to act as vibration dampers.
