Support strut for small furniture items

The strut comprises several metal tubes (10) fitting together in alignment to make up length adjustable support rods (12). At least one plastics connector (22,24,26) is provided which can be press-fitted into an open end of the metal tube where it can be axially supported on the adjoining end edges of the tube through a radially protruding collar. The plastics connector has either an axially central inner thread or an axially protruding threaded journal or axially central elastically expanding guide opening for engaging a telescopic rod (16). An end cap (18,20) can be pressed onto the free ends of the rod length.
