A painting device for a moving paper strip has two counter-rotating rollers (1, 2) to form a gap through which a guide device directs the paper strip (3) upwards from below. On each roller is an applicator system forming a unit (4) comprising applicator and, preceding it, a scraper device (6). Here the unit (4) has a main part (4.1) where the lower portion, with roller (1, 2) cover (1.1), delineates a paint sump (5) where on the floor is located a roller applicator (4.2). The scraper device (6) attached to the main part can be swung about an axis parallel to the roller axis, but limited by a stop.
