The procedure consists of taking a sample of lace or embroidery made from cotton or synthetic fibres, treating it with wax, varnish, resin or other plastic material to give more volume, and then coating it with plaster. Once the plaster has set it is heated in a kiln to remove all traces of the original material, leaving a mould into which Au, Ag or other precious metal or alloy can be injected in molten form, solidifying to leave a metal reproduction of the original sample. The moulded metal article can be made into a necklace, for example, with the aid of a normal chain.
