Synthetic plastic compositions are plasticized and/or extended with a relatively high aromatic fraction containing at least 90%, preferably 95% by weight of aromatics obtained by treatment of a solvent extract of a mineral oil. The extraction may be by furfural, sulphur dioxide, sulphur dioxide-benzol mixtures, alcohols or phenols and the treatment of the extract may comprise distillation, preferably molecular distillation, or cooling until separation into two phases occurs.
