The waste extractor, e.g. for a top-loading washing machine, consists of a tunnel (21) connecting the chamber (3) surrounding the washing machine drum and formed between the lower wall (22) of the chamber and a deflector (23) on a second wall (24) of the chamber, located above the first. The deflector covers an outlet well (8) which can have a trap (51) in it for mechanical objects (51) which can be removed from the outside of the washing machine and emptied. The trap (51) has two apertures (53,54) in its opposite vertical walls, one linked to the tunnel and the other to the well (8), while mechanical objects remain in the bottom. The trap can be removed, for example, through an aperture in the inside of the drum.
