PURPOSE:To obtain a display unit which has excellent discharge characteristics, i.e. starts accurate discharge over the entire surface in a short time. CONSTITUTION:This unit has electrode holding plates 10 and 11 of trnasparent float plate glass, X-axial and Y-axial electrodes 12 and 13 arranged intersecting each other, dielectric layers 14 and 15 formed on the electrode surfaces, and insulating layer 17 with prop-shaped insulating layer 16 formed on the surface of dielectric 14 and through hole 18 formed on the surface of dielectric 15, and through hole 18 provided to insulating layer 17 at the visual side prescribes a display region. At this time, since insulating films 16 at the opposite side of the visual side is formed thick and in a prop shape, not only the space prescribed by through hole 18 but also almost all of the space between insulating layer 17 and dielectric layer 14 work as the discharge space. Namely, since discharge space is not partitioned by insulating layer 16, the starting of the discharge of one of discharge cells allows generated charge particles to move adjacent cell space through diffusion, where they become the discharge trigger source of the adjacent cell and spread over the entire cell of the display plate. |
