PURPOSE:To largely reduce the incidence of falling of sheets by providing smooth irregularities on faces of rolls of a widening unit which come in contact with an expanded sheet for providing the irregularities on the rolls of the widening unit or a belt so as to assuredly grip the expanded sheet CONSTITUTION:A bracket 13 is provided with an axis 18 rectangular to an axis of a roll. The bracket 13 is supported rotatably on a fixed stage 19 by the axis 18 and a widening angle can be adjusted by a widening angle adjusting handle 20. A drive roll 11 and a movable roll 12 are respectively provided with smooth irregularities 21 on their faces which come in contact with an expanded sheet. Although the grooves of the irregularities 21 are arranged such that the groove of the drive roll 11 coincides with the groove of the movable roll 12, the irregularities 21 may be formed into waveforms so as to make the irregularities 21 of the drive roll 11 and the movable roll 12 engage with each other.
