PURPOSE:To efficiently apply an elastic protector to the outer surface of a rubber hose without damaging the protector and requiring labor, skill and time by forming an airtight space between the elastic protector and a second tube and evacuating the space through a plurality of through-holes and inner peripheral grooves to expand the diameter of the protector and subsequently inserting the rubber hose into the protector to open the airtight space to the atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:An airtight space 7 can be evacuated through a gap 13 and through- holes 12c by the suction of a vacuum pump 20 and an elastic protector can be uniformly expanded. Therefore, a rubber hose 1 can be easily inserted in the expanded cavity 2c of the protector 2 axially from a through-hole 15b and, further, the hose 1 can be inserted in the hole of a first contact member 14 and the hose is inserted in the protector 2 from the other end thereof toward one end thereof to be brought into contact with the end surface of an inside rod-shaped stopper 141 to prescribe the movement of the hose 1. Next, the airtight space 7 is opened to the atmosphere by the three-way valve provided between a tube cap 8 and a pump 20 to contract the protector 2 to its original shape and the protector 2 can be externally fitted to the outer peripheral surface of the hose 1 at a predetermined position in a pressure contact state. |
