PURPOSE:To provide a sintered body for tools capable of satisfying the features required for cutting tool materials, etc., that is, all of toughness, strength, workability, hardness, and wear resistance. CONSTITUTION:A sintered body for tools is made up of 20 to 85 volume % carbide, nitride, boride of transition metal of either of 4a, 5a, 6a groups on the periodic table, or a mixture of the above substances or a solid solution of these substances 2 to 30 volume % iron group metal, and 10 to 50 volume % diamond of 40mum or less particle size. The sintered body is a sintered body, in which the proportion of 1mum or less ultrafine diamond is 20 to 80 volume % of the whole diamond, and in the iron group metal constituting the sintered body or on its surface, carbon is precipitated. |
