PURPOSE:To increase the speed of a color printer by forming a printing head from sets of first and second ink heads arranged in the same color order in relation to the forward and rearward passages of a scanning direction and performing printing in the forward passage by the ink heads of the first set and in the rearward passage by the ink heads of the second set. CONSTITUTION:In a printing cartridge 1, ink heads 11-18 corresponding to respective color inks of yellow, magenta, cyan and black are arranged in the same color order in relation to the forward and rearward passages of the scanning direction (shown by an arrow) of the cartridge 1 to form two sets of first and second ink heads. For example, the cartridge 1 uses the black in head 11 in common and the cyan heads 12, 16 the magenta heads 13, 17 and the yellow heads 14, 18 are arranged on the left and right sides of the black head 11 in this order in the direction shown by an arrow and the ink head sets of sets X, Y are formed.
