PURPOSE: To improve a fragility and a nonuniform porosity by molding a deflection electrode for use in a continuous ink jet printing device of a powdered ultra high molecular weight polyethylene combined with carbon black and subjecting the electrode to oxygen plasma treatment. CONSTITUTION: A blend of an ultra high molecular weight polyethylene(UHMWPE) and carbon black (a ratio of the carbon black is 5-2 wt.%) is molded to a deflection electrode-constructing body. Plastic particles of 30-40μm diameter are used for the blend containing the carbon black by 1% and 0.5%, and plastic particles of 60μm diameter are used for the blend containing the carbon black by 2%. The constructing body is molded in a compression mold cavity at 100-120 deg.C for approximately 30 minutes and subjected to plasma treatment with use of a conventional oxygen plasma treatment apparatus. The obtained deflection electrode shows superior permeation properties for water ink.
