PURPOSE:To keep reliability of an indoor unit by stopping a compressor of an outdoor unit when the temperature of an indoor unit heat exchanger of the indoor unit exceeds a predetermined threshold value. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of indoor units X, X' which store different threshold values in memory means 44 can be selected in response to the number of connectable indoor units A. A temperature of an indoor heat exchanger 18 of the unit A is detected by means of a temperature sensor 31, and when the temperature exceeds a predetermined threshold value, a compressor 1 of the unit X is, for example, stopped by a protective controller 43. Thus, even if the number of the units A to be connected is altered without adding special protective function at the units X, X' side, similar reliability can be obtained.
