Organic wastes which are difficult to biodegrade, containing surfactants added if necessary, are foamed and the foam, which contains the bulk of the organic waste and the surfactants is treated by known processes such as an activated sludge or trickling filter unit. The bulk of the aqueous effluent is removed from the foaming zone and treated by normal means. A sedimentation process may precede the foam fractionation. The foam fractionation may be repeated.
|
