A photographically exposed, free radical photosensitive film, based on leuco triarylmethane, leuco xanthene, leuco thioxanthene or leuco phenothiazine dyes plus activators falling within lists given in the Specification, is fixed by applying to the image-bearing exposed surface of the film a solution of a film-forming plastic and ferric chloride, cobalt chloride, cobalt naphthenate or cobaltous thiocyanate as an inhibitor dissolved in a volatile solvent. On drying a protective layer containing the inhibitor is formed.
