The water resistance of gypsum compositions, such as those used in gypsum wallboard, is improved by incorporating in the compositions an aqueous emulsion containing a paraffinic hydrocarbon having a melting point of 40 DEG to 80 DEG C., montan wax and polyvinyl alcohol.
