PURPOSE: To make effective use of the area of an instrument panel for a display by eliminating the possibility that the field of view is obstructed as is observed with techniques of the prior art. CONSTITUTION: This system includes a projection system having a mirror 26 for deflecting a projected image, the mirror 26 being located directly in front of a driver at a level outside the normal field of view of the driver through a windshield 12. In a head-up display mode, the mirror deflects the projected image onto the windshield 12, and in a head-down display mode, a video image is transmitted through the mirror to allow the driver to view the image outside the normal field of view. |
