The proposed travelling belt propulsion unit comprises: a housing (1) made of individual sections (8) and a closed belt (6) surrounding the frame (1) with a space (10, 12) between itself and the frame. Pockets (15) are provided in the frame; they communicate with the space and are supplied with lubricant, the lubricant being fed at an even rate through slots between the ridges (18) in the space. A layer of ice can be formed on the frame inside the space by feeding a cooled agent onto the frame or by means of a thermoelectric cooling system. As the object advances owing to the interaction between the liquid and the surface of the closed belt, tension is created which causes the closed belt to slip in relation to the lubricant or the ice layer which has formed on the frame along the directrices (11) thereof, cancelling the braking effect of the liquid at the object boundary.
