The braking system is used on a hose reel mounted on a tanker vehicle. It consists of an annular disc or ring (12) fastened to one end of the reel by bolts and distance pieces near the outer edge of the ring. The ring acts as a disc brake with brake pads (35,36) engaging on either side in a caliper action. The brake pads are mounted on levers or jaws (26,27) swivelling on the same pivot bolt (25). This bolt is mounted on the framework supporting the bearing for the reel spindle, and is situated inside the braking ring. There are brackets (32) on the jaws (26,27) which accommodate a threaded rod (22). This is turned by a handwheel to urge the two brake pads together and apply the brake.
