Exchange of hydraulic energy between a depressurising fluid and a fluid being pumped on opposite sides of one or more double effect pistons. The piston operates in a double effect cylinder with water tight devices, non-return valves, and one or more control valves. One side of the piston is the 'pumping chamber', containing the fluid for pumping, and the other is the 'depressurisation chamber'. The greatest difference in pressure between the two chambers occurs during the 'inversion phases' and a number of devices are described for reducing this difference and minimising the risk of bursting the piston seal.
|
