<p>PURPOSE: To produce a cathode main body by the compression molding of a mixture of a heat resistant metal powder and a scandium-containing powder. CONSTITUTION: Prior to a compression molding process, at least both of a heat resistant metal powder and a scandium-containing powder together with a proper binder are mixed to give a uniform mixture and then the whole mixture is hardened and after that the hardened mixture is pulverized into particles with a larger average particle size, that is a higher fluidity, than that of the starting substance. Next, the particles obtained in such a manner is comparatively molded into a cathode main body 2. The processibility and the handling easiness of the starting substance powder are improved and extremely fine starting substance powder can be made usable and as compared with a cathode produced by a conventional method from coarse starting substance powders, the obtained cathode 1 has improved restoring property after ion implantation.</p> |
