This device is adapted from a machine, which is originally designed for harvesting maize. It consists of a harvesting head for each of the series of rows to be picked, a casing assembly carrying two rollers, known as chopping rollers (1 & 2), two counter plates, which are formed from a spreading plate (3) and two transporter chains (5), fitted with lugs (6) at regular intervals. The spreading plate is replaced by a plate of similar dimensions, fitted with a toothed pinion (15), which is suitable to be driven by the transporter chain. To the base of this pinion are fixed the mobile cutting blades (16). The substitute plate (10) carries on one of its edges the counter blade (17), to ensure that the stems of the sunflowers are cut. One of the chopping rollers is also removed.
