PURPOSE: To provide a multiple-speed ratio manual transmission for automobile having minimum dimension, weight and rotational inertia, matched with required torque capacity. CONSTITUTION: This transmission includes three coaxial shafts (i.e., an input shaft 12, an output shaft 14 and an intermediate shaft), and a counter shaft 18 parallel to the three shafts. Multiple pinion-gear pairs are meshed each other and supported on the three coaxial shafts and countershaft 18. A planetary gear unit 98 includes a sun gear 104, a ring gear 100, a carrier 108, and planetary pinions 106 supported on the carrier 108 and meshed with the sun gear 104 and the ring gear 100. Synchronizers drivably connect a member of the pinion-gear pairs to one of the shafts. A shift mechanism transmits motion of a shift lever 122 to shift forks that move synchronizer sleeves 58, 70, 84, 112 into engagement with the selected gear. |
