发明名称 REINFORCING STRUCTURE OF OPTICAL FIBER COUPLER
摘要 PURPOSE:To make residual stress after curing of an adhesive small and to prevent degradation of a coupler assembly with lapse of time so as to improve its reliability by incorporating a stress buffer material into the adhesive for fixing the optical fiber coupler. CONSTITUTION:An SiO2-based filler or elastic spherical resin is incorporated as the stress buffer material into the adhesive at the time of fixing the optical fiber coupler 4 formed by heating, fusing and stretching plural pieces of optical fibers 10, 20 to a substrate 5 consisting of quartz glass, etc., by the adhesive 6. The SiO2-based filler is micropowder consisting essentially of silicon oxide and consists of components which are the same as or similar to the components of the quartz glass constituting clad parts 1, 2 of the optical fibers 10, 20 and, therefore, the powder does not apply a stress to a coupler body 4 at the time of curing of the adhesive 6. The shrinkage rate of the adhesive 6 is lowered by adding the SiO2-based filler thereto. On the other hand, the elastic spherical resin is spherical micropowder consisting of an acrylic resin, etc., and is capable of absorbing the residual stress at the time of shrinkage of the adhesive 6 on curing.
