PURPOSE:To prevent a picture of a user himself (or herself) or a room from being transmitted immediately after the start of communication. CONSTITUTION:At the time of starting communication, a switching circuit 14 selects an output picture from a picture output device 12 and applies the selected picture to a picture coding/decoding circuit 16. The device 12 is a video tape reproducing device, a video disk reproducing device or the like and its output picture is a picture for informing communication start, a corporation mark of a certain corporation, or a moving picture or a still picture for private public relations. A system control circuit 30 allows a switching circuit 14 to select an output from a video camera 10 in accordance with a user's instruction. The camera 10 takes a picture of a talker, i.e., the user. Thereby the picture of the user is transmitted to a called terminal. At the end of communication, the circuit 14 switches the output of the camera 10 to the output of the device 12. Consequently an output picture from the device 12 is transmitted to the communicated party. |
