PURPOSE:To shorten time for evaluating a condition of abrasion, and make possible the quantification of evaluation by classifying the remaining quantity of a processed groove provided for the outer circumferential surface of a piston into a plurality of classes in response to the quantity per unit area, and thereby giving different weight to each class. CONSTITUTION:While a piston 1 is being rotated, the outer surface periphery of a piston skirt is photographed by an optical lens system 6 and a CCD camera 5 provided with a red optical filter highest in receiving sensitivity. A processed groove provided for the outer surface periphery of a piston skirt is extracted by, for example, a templete matching method based on data for an original image formed, the remaining quantity of each extracted processed groove is classified into a plurality of classes every location in response to the quantity of the processed groove per unit area so as to be weighted, and a plurality of pseudo colors are applied to each class stepwise in accordance with given weight. By this constitution, the strength of abrasion (spot) can thereby be intutively recognized, besides, since the relative relation between the remaining processed groove and the strength of abrasion can be formed into a data base, spot can thereby be quantified. |
