PURPOSE:To drastically improve the input speed and input efficiency of a character string input device for inputting characters by character-recognizing the characters handwritten on a tablet with a stylus pen or the like. CONSTITUTION:A direct character string buffer 5 stores the character recognized results of the handwritten characters written from a character handwriting means 1, a prediction means 6 predicts character strings continuing immediately after the character string inside the direct character string buffer 5 and a predicted character string buffer 7 stores character string candidates predicted by the prediction means 6. A display control means 22 constitutes display contents including the contents of the predicted character string buffer 7 as well in addition to the contents of a handwritten character buffer 2 and the contents of the direct character string buffer 5. For the display method of the predicted character strings, a method for displaying them in an area different from the direct character string and making them selectable and the method for continuously displaying the first candidate of the predicted character strings immediately after the direct character string and overwriting and selecting a different candidate when it is not the desired character string, are present. |
