PURPOSE:To prevent damage to a source document by transferring a jam occurrence status to a host at the end of image reading so as to find out early occurrence of jam. CONSTITUTION:A CPU discriminate it that a source document 58 passes through a read position B based on an input signal from a paper discharge sensor 56 to start a counter. When the count gives a value equivalent to or over a prescribed error time, it is decided that the source document 58 causes jamming on the way of paper discharge from a read position B to a paper discharge tray and stops a paper feed motor and a carrier motor to stop the carrying of the source document. Simultaneously a jam occurrence status is transferred to the host to display jamming. Thus the operator finds out early the occurrence of jam and a damage to the source document is prevented. |
