PURPOSE: To perform high-speed copying by attaining a helical scanning device capable of scanning numerous tracks. CONSTITUTION: A head drum assembly 10 is provided with a large number of video heads CH1 -CH2 R mounted to the outer peripheral surface of a rotating upper drum 15. The video heads are divided into both groups of CH1 -CHN and CHN+1 -CH2 N and the video heads or the like within the respective groups are adjacently arranged at preset intervals from each other. The video heads CH1 -CHN and CHN+1 -CH2 N of the respective groups are arranged at mutually different heights from the lower end edge 24 of the head drum 10 to an upper part stepwise and aligned and arranged in a longitudinal direction to a magnetic tape 20 and thus, the video heads simultaneously scan the same number of the tracks on the tape. The height is turned to 58μm the same as the valid width of the tape and thus, this helical scanning device capable of scanning many video tracks for the high-speed copying is obtained.
