Decontamination of aq. slurries by removal of anaerobically-formed gas and/or liq. contaminants by microbiological oxidn. in a surface boundary layer of the slurry is effected using in this a layer a "growing body" which is damp, water-filled or water permeable and which consists of a lattice structure (e.g. a fabric) having a through-flow height of 1-10 cm and a ratio of microorganism growth surface to base surface of 1-10:1, this body having freely-suspended or floating vol. magnifications which can extend to the water surface and/or define the slurry layer from the atmosphere.
