A copier arrangement has a document table (3) for holding an original document (D), and a document feed arrangement (2) operating in circulatory or reciprocal mode. A sensor device (12) detects the length of the original using information from a measurement sensor (11) arranged on the original's path of motion and a selection arrangement (6,8). The selection arrangement selects a recirculation operating mode when the original is smaller than a defined length. It selects a reciprocal motion operating mode when the detected length of the original is greater than the defined length.
