Bi-component air textured yarn for sewing threads

A bicomponent yarn of synthetic polymer has core filaments and effect filaments which form surface loops. The effect filaments comprise at least 25% wt., pref. 25-55% wt., and individual effect filaments are finer than 2.0 d tex. Also claimed are (i) a yarn with core filaments finer than 2.0 d tex; and (ii) the manufacturing process of feeding two or more strands of synthetic polymer consisting of filaments finer than 2.0 d tex at different speeds to a texturing jet and intermingling them to form surface loops. The bicomponent yarn is drawn off under tension to reduce the size of the surface loops and to stabilise it, after which it is heat set so that the proportion of surface loops is at least 15% wt.
