The method controls or regulates the setting up operation for a printer. It involves inputting an operating parameter according to the setting of another operating parameter. The computer control system uses varying parameters according to a reference printer. The values for parameters lying outside the limits of the reference machine parameters are derived using a numerical successive approximation method or by interpolation. Values are displayed on an interactive user display.
