N-PHENYLTETRAHYDROPHTHALAMIC ACID DERIVATIVE, PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME, AND HERBICIDE CONTAINING THE SAME AS ACTIVE INGREDIENT

An N-phenyltetrahydrophthalamic acid derivative represented by general formula (I), a process for producing the same, a herbicide containing the same as the active ingredient, and imidoyl chloride derivatives as an intermediate for the production of the acid derivative, and a process for producing the chloride derivative. In formula (I) X and Y represent each independently hydrogen or halogen; R1 represent lower alkoxycarbonylalkylthio; R2 represents lower alkyl, halogenated lower alkyl or (un)substituted phenyl; and R3 represents lower alkoxy, lower alkenyloxy, lower alkynyloxy or lower alkoxyalkoxy. The herbicide can widely be applied to upland and lowland fields, orchard, pasture, turf, forest and non-cropland, and is highly safe for crops, thus being remarkably useful.
