The door member contains a sheet metal carcass (12) with wooden strips (20,22) carrying furniture fittings (32). The wooden strips are fitted at the carcass top and bottom ends. For forming a slide door member (10) the furniture fittings are of the guide member type, protruding upwards, or downwards, over the top and bottom strips respectively. Pref. the top and bottom wooden strips each have two guide fittings secured to spaced end sections (26) of the respective wooden strip. A third furniture fitting may be located between the two side fittings, particularly on the bottom wooden strip.
