A process for producing a rubber-metal bond on steel, galvanised steel, alumimium and/or magnesium in which the metal components are pretreated with aqueous acid solution containing at least 4-20 g/l phosphate ions, 0.1-1 g/l fluoride and 0.04-1 g/l nitrate ions and preferably as further components 0.05-0.5 g/l molybdate ions and 0.5-2 g/l non-ionic tensides.
