Method for monitoring effectiveness of blind riveting operation

The method involves using a pneumatic/hydraulic hand tool and a pressure sensor. The sensor determines the thrust experienced by the rivet head in opposition to the force exerted on the rivet by its traction stem during the deformation phase following rivet insertion. The force/time relationship during this phase is compared with stored norms for the process. A further sensor measures the linear travel of the rivet stem until its separation by shearing. The latter sensor also provides an additional control parameter for confirming satisfactory performance.
