Circuitry with series electrolytic capacitors with bias circuit for AC use

Two polarised electrolytic capacitors (C1, C2) are connected in series to form a phase shifter for single-phase asynchronous electric motors, load (L). As supply voltage (U) is applied, the net polarising voltage on the capacitors is zero. A diode (D), with series resistor (R), is installed to introduce a bias voltage and charging current to form the dielectric oxide layer of the capacitor. The resistor may be connected permanently to the supply. The two capacitors with bias circuit may be included in a single package.
