A support (1) partic. metallic or plastic is coated with a metallic iridescent paint consisting of an inner layer (3) made of aluminium pigments in a paste and an organic binder, and an intermediate (4) producing an iridescence by light diffraction and a final (5) varnish protective coating. The intermediate layer is formed from other of pearl coloured beads of 5-150 mm. dia. in an organic binder of polyurethane, polyester, melamine or acetobutyrate. The beads represent 2-25 vol.% of the layer which is 2-20 mm.thick.
