The cable winding drum comprises two face plates (1) and a drum, the face plates being fastened together by rods (6). Each face plate includes a band made of T-section material supported on a series of radial rods (10). The inner ends of the rods are welded between two washers (12) and a sleeve (11) forming a hub. The outer end of each rod has a cutout shape in order to receive the upright bar of the T-section material with a welded joint. An aperture (19) is formed in the centre of a plate (3) in order to receive the edge of the drum on which the cable is carried.
