PURPOSE: To provide a document alignment system of high reliability to allow quick operation while having simple structure. CONSTITUTION: This system includes plural drive rolls 42 operated to drive documents 124 one sheet by one sheet along a feed passage, and plural alignment rolls 100. The alignment roll 100 has an axial line perpendicular to an axial line of the drive roll 42, and is operated to move the documents 124 transversely with respect to the feed passage so as to bring a longitudinal edge of the documents 124 separated along the feed passage into contact with a reference face 72 in parallel. When the rolls 100 are operated, the drive rolls 42 are brought into non-operating conditions to release contact with the documents 124. Since the each alignment roll 100 is arranged to cooperate with a ball 112 displaced by a spring 112 and equipped rotatably, the document 124 is caught elastically between the alignment roll 100 and the ball 112 in a process for an aligning operation. |
