PURPOSE: To impart superior flame retardancy without changing characteristics of a fiber material contg. nitrogen atoms in its structure by grafting the fiber material with the specified compd. CONSTITUTION: A fiber material contg. nitrogen atoms in its polymeric structure, especially a silk fiber, is grafted with a phosphoric acid ethylenic ester of formula I (R1 is selected from the group comprising H and alkyl radicals; R2 is selected from the group comprising alkylene radicals and alkylene oxide radicals and/or polyalkylene oxide radicals), particularly with phosphated ethylene glycol methacrylate expressed by formula II, in the presence of a graft initiator of ammonium persulfonate (the grafting rate being less than or equal to 20%), to impart superior flame retardancy without changing characteristics of the fiber material. |
