1,091,885. Injection moulding machines. S. C. HART-STILL. Dec. 6, 1965 [Dec. 8, 1964], No. 49911/64. Heading B5A. Clearance between hydraulically operated, longitudinally movable, pins (5) and bores (6), (7) locking together two platens of an injection moulding machine is taken up by a metal plate (9) which forms with the lower platen (3) a cavity (8) into which hydraulic fluid is pumped under high pressure during moulding, thereby causing the plate to flex towards the other platen. The injection moulding machine comprises vertically separable platens (2), (3) supporting mould valves (2a), (3a), respectively, and locked in the mould-closed position by the pins (5) on each side of the machine which seat in the aligned bores (6), (7), respectively, in the lower platen (3) and an extension (4) of the upper platen (2). In a modification (Fig. 5, not shown) an upper mould part (2b) acts as the upper platen, the extension (4) being connected thereto by shear elements (18). In both embodiments thermoplastics material is injected horizontally into the mould by four injection heads (11) spaced around the periphery of the machine.
